An online privacy tool: privacychoice
One issue with online tracking is that while each online tracking service provides an “opt out” at its website it does require that you 1) know which company is tracking you and 2) go to each company’s website to set up your opt out option. Privacychoice (http://www.privacychoice.org) provides, at no cost, a cookie that will inform tracking services that you have opted out of tracking. The privacychoice opt out includes both a universal opt out or the ability to opt out of tracking from certain companies. In addition, privacy choice provides a free service which shows the different tracking software is associated with a number of popular websites and whether the site’s privacy policy is accountable to the Network Advertising Initiative and Truste. Privacychoice also allows you type in a particular website and find out its tracking software and accountability. Simonkraussprivacyeye is clean (no surprise). Wordpress, which hosts this blog, has six different tracking software companies associated with it.
